Shopian, November 30, 2025: A worker of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) lost his life after being electrocuted while carrying out repair work in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

Officials said the incident occurred when the worker was engaged in maintenance of a power supply line in the district. He sustained critical injuries due to electrocution and succumbed on the spot despite immediate rescue efforts.

The deceased has been identified as a KPDCL employee from Shopian, who was part of a team deployed for urgent repair work following complaints of disruption in electricity supply. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over the area.

Authorities confirmed that a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. Senior officials of KPDCL expressed grief over the loss and assured support to the bereaved family.

The incident highlights the risks faced by frontline power workers in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly during harsh winter conditions in Kashmir.
