Canberra: India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has suffered another injury setback, with a neck spasm ruling him out of the first three T20Is in the ongoing series against Australia.
Reddy, who was recovering from a left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, developed neck spasms that have further affected his recovery and movement.
In a statement, the BCCI confirmed the news, saying:
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms which have impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”
Initially expected to return in time for the T20I series, the new injury has delayed his comeback. The board added that a decision on his participation in the remaining matches will be taken later.
Reddy sustained the quadriceps injury while fielding during the Adelaide ODI on October 23, straining his thigh after a dive near the long-on boundary. Scans revealed a minor tear, ruling him out of the final ODI in Sydney. India brought in Kuldeep Yadav for added spin and Harshit Rana in place of Arshdeep Singh to strengthen the pace attack.
His absence is a major blow for India, particularly with Hardik Pandya also recovering from injury. Reddy’s all-round ability was seen as crucial to maintaining balance in Suryakumar Yadav’s side.
Meanwhile, in the first T20I at Manuka Oval, Australia won the toss and chose to field. India’s playing XI features a blend of youth and experience, with Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh left out of the opening match.
