Jammu: Northern Railways on Tuesday announced the cancellation of 22 trains scheduled for the next day from Jammu and Katra stations, while 27 others were short-terminated due to heavy rains lashing the region.

“Train services had to be curtailed in view of the prevailing weather conditions,” said the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Railway, Jammu Division.

The Jammu region has been witnessing its heaviest rainfall in decades since Monday, recording over 250 mm in less than 24 hours. The downpour has triggered flash floods, landslides, and damage to roads and bridges, forcing large-scale evacuations and inundating residential as well as agricultural areas.

Of the 22 cancelled trains, nine originated from Katra—the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine—and one from Jammu, while the others were bound for Katra, Jammu, and Udhampur.

Separately, services were suspended between Pathankot and Kandrori in Himachal Pradesh following soil erosion and flash floods at the Chakki River. The 27 short-terminated trains were halted at Firozpur, Manda, Chak Rakhwalan, and Pathankot.

Train operations on the Katra–Srinagar route, however, remain unaffected, officials said.
