Jammu: Three Cab Drivers Booked for Traffic Advisory Violation, Overcharging

Traffic Police Jammu booked three cab drivers on Monday for violating the Traffic Headquarters (THQ) advisory and overcharging passengers.

To enforce the advisory permitting only downward movement of vehicles on NH-44, a checkpoint was set up at Jagti near IIM Jammu. Around 10:00 am, three Swift cars (JK06C-0915, JK17A-6305, JK17A-6364) were intercepted while ferrying passengers towards Doda-Kishtwar in violation of the order. The drivers were also found charging fares beyond the approved rates.

When confronted, the drivers allegedly misbehaved with traffic personnel and refused to produce documents. They were detained and taken to Police Station Nagrota. The accused were identified as Abdul Gafoor of Bhala (Gandoh), Aqib Hussain Bhat of Berwar (Kishtwar), and Mohammad Tayab of Chatroo (Kishtwar).

An FIR (No. 195/2025) under Sections 132/126(2) BNS and 177/179/201 MV Act has been registered, and the vehicles have been seized.

Traffic Police have urged the public to follow advisories and avoid unauthorized transporters, warning that violators will face strict action. Commuters can contact Traffic Police City Jammu at 0191-2459048, 94191-47732, or toll-free 103 for updates.
