Peshawar: Thirty Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants involved in the recent killing of 11 soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, were eliminated in a series of “retribution operations” in Orakzai district of northwest Pakistan, the army said on Friday.

Earlier this week, 11 personnel were martyred during an intelligence-based operation against TTP militants in the Orakzai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a statement issued on Friday, the army said security forces launched multiple “retribution operations” against “Fitna al-Khawarij” following the October 7 incident that claimed the lives of the soldiers.

Based on credible intelligence, an operation was carried out in the Jamal Maya area of Orakzai, where all 30 militants involved in the attack were “sent to hell” after an intense exchange of fire, the statement added.

“These successful operations have avenged the heinous act and brought the main perpetrators to justice,” the army said.

The Pakistan government last year officially designated the banned TTP as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a term rooted in early Islamic history referring to a violent extremist group.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the security personnel for defending the nation “by risking their lives,” while President Asif Ali Zardari praised the “courageous” operation. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also commended the forces, vowing that the terrorists “will not be allowed to hide anywhere in Pakistan.”

Pakistan continues to grapple with rising militancy, with overall violence surging by 46 per cent in the third quarter of 2025, according to recent media reports.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the worst-affected province, accounting for nearly 71 per cent of the total fatalities (638) and over 67 per cent of violent incidents (221), followed by Balochistan with 25 per cent of the deaths (230) and 85 incidents.

Terrorist attacks, primarily targeting police, law enforcement agencies, and security forces, have sharply increased in both provinces in recent months.
