Kabul, December 1 — The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck Afghanistan on Monday morning.

The tremor occurred at 10:21 IST at a depth of 163 km, with its epicentre located at latitude 36.57 N and longitude 71.11 E. The quake was felt across parts of northern Afghanistan and neighbouring regions.

Earlier in the day, a separate earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was recorded at a depth of 90 km, underscoring the region’s seismic vulnerability. Afghanistan lies on active fault lines between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it prone to frequent tremors.

Authorities have not reported immediate casualties or damage, but monitoring continues. Disaster management agencies have urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.
