Jammu: Around 50 houses were damaged as land subsidence hit two mountainous villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, forcing authorities to evacuate residents to safer locations, officials said.
The administration, prioritising the safety and rehabilitation of the affected families, has been working round-the-clock to provide relief.
“In Bagga Jameslan village, about 35 houses were damaged. All families were swiftly evacuated and shifted to three designated relief camps at the Government High School, Middle School and Panchayat Ghar,” a senior official said.
In nearby Sarh village, land sinking damaged 15 houses. The displaced families were safely moved to a relief camp set up at the Panchayat Ghar, he added.
The measures were taken under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik, following continuous rainfall and fresh incidents of land sinking in Mahore subdivision. On-ground operations were led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mahore, Shafqat Majeed Bhat, along with officials from all key departments to ensure safe evacuation and timely assistance.
Relief camps have been equipped with essential supplies including food rations, blankets, mattresses, tents, drinking water and uninterrupted electricity for the affected families.
