Islamabad: Pakistani security forces killed 50 terrorists during a four-day operation in Balochistan’s border region, the army said in an overnight statement.

The terrorists were targeted between August 7 and 11 in the Sambaza area of Zhob district, near the Afghanistan border. Referring to members of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the army said, “47 khwarij were sent to hell” in engagements from August 7–9.

A follow-up sanitisation operation was conducted in Sambaza on the night of August 10–11, in which three more militants were killed. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from those slain.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday lauded the security forces for the successful operation, state-run APP reported.

In a separate incident on Monday night, nine security personnel — including an officer — were killed and six others injured when their convoy was ambushed in Washuk district, bordering Iran, Dawn reported, citing officials.

Militants in Washuk also tried to attack a police station recently handed over to the police, injuring three policemen before security personnel repelled the assault. The army has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
