JAMMU,: Department of Botany, Government College for Women Parade Ground today organized a one day lecture for the students on the topic “Wetland: Threats and Conservation” to commemorate Wetland Day.
The event was organized under the guidance and supervision of Principal of the college, Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo.
As many as 60 students actively participated in this interactive programme.
The resource person for the event was Ashwani Kumar Mittal, SFS, DFO, Urban Forestry Jammu. He sensitized the students about the relevance of wetlands and various threats faced by the wetlands today. He also stressed upon the different strategies to protect wetlands from pollution and their sustainable development.
The event culminated with a plantation drive in which Ashwani Kumar Mittal, Dr. Ritu Magotra, HOD English, Dr. Rajesh Kant, HOD Chemistry, Prof. Ghanjit Singh planted saplings in the college premises. The faculty members of the department were also present in the plantation drive. The whole programme was coordinated by Prof. Aasia Rashid Bhat, Incharge HOD Botany.
The proceedings of the event were carried out by Prof. Usha Devi and the formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Sukhwinder Kaur.
