J&K: Schools Shut in Gurez Due to Heavy Snowfall, Avalanche Risk

Srinagar: Amid heavy snowfall and avalanche threats, authorities have closed all schools in Gurez Valley, north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, until March 15.

The Sub Divisional Magistrate Gurez Mukhtar Ahmad Ahanger issued an order on Thursday stating that in view of heavy snowfall all schools in Gurez Sub division will remain closed up to March 15.

The order reads “in view of the heavy snowfall in Gurez Sub division, avalanche threat and the prevailing weather conditions, it has been observed that the movement of the students and staff remains severely affected. Considering the safety and well-being of all concerned, it is hereby ordered that all the schools of Gurez Sub division shall remain closed up to 15 March 2025”.

Pertinently the upper reaches of Kashmir valley were experiencing light to moderate snowfall for the past four days while plains were lashed by intermittent rains disrupting normal activities.
