BHADERWAH: A significant environment awareness event was organized today at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Bhaderwah by the J&K Pollution Control Committee Doda.
The programme themed as “End Plastic Pollution Globally”, in alignment with this year’s global focus on curbing plastic usage’ aimed to sensitize students and the local community about the harmful effects of plastic pollution on the environment and human health.
The event was held in collaboration with the local administration with the Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunil Kumar Bhutyal attending as the Chief Guest.
Other government functionaries present were Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), In-charge Principal of the host institution and civil society members. The programme featured interactive sessions, awareness talks, and group discussions focused on sustainable practices, plastic alternatives and eco-friendly habits.
Speakers emphasized the urgent need to reduce single-use plastic and encouraged students to adopt responsible waste segregation, recycling methods, and conscious consumer choices. The event inspired youth participation in environmental protection, highlighting the role of individual actions in driving collective change.
The programme concluded with a pledge by students and staff to minimize plastic usage and embrace a more sustainable lifestyle. A plantation drive was also carried out within the school premises, symbolizing a commitment to enhancing green cover and promoting environmental awareness. The initiative received widespread appreciation for fostering environmental responsibility among the younger generation in Bhaderwah.
