Beijing/Tehran,: As tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, China has confirmed the evacuation of nearly 800 of its citizens from Iran to safer locations. The move is part of a larger emergency operation being coordinated by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions in the region.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, a total of 791 Chinese nationals have already been moved out of Iran with the assistance of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, who are facilitating their transit at land borders. An additional 1,000 Chinese citizens are currently in the process of evacuation.
Guo emphasized that the safety and well-being of Chinese nationals abroad is a top priority for Beijing. “Thanks to the active support of friendly neighboring countries, many of our citizens have been safely transferred from areas of concern. We are continuing efforts to ensure the safe return of others still present in the region,” he said during a press briefing.
The spokesperson also noted that some Chinese nationals have already been evacuated from Israel as well, as part of China’s broader regional response to the growing crisis.
The development comes on the sixth day of open hostilities between Iran and Israel, with missile exchanges, airstrikes, and threats creating a dangerous environment for foreign nationals. Several other countries have also begun evacuation or issued travel advisories, urging their citizens to avoid the region or shelter in place if evacuation is not immediately possible.
China’s move signals the growing concern among global powers over the volatility of the Middle East situation, especially given Iran’s ongoing retaliatory threats and Israel’s vow for a military response.
Beijing has reiterated its call for restraint on all sides and urged a diplomatic resolution to prevent further destabilization of the region.
