Srinagar: IMD Issues Yellow Alert Amid Ongoing Monsoon Havoc in Himachal the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Srinagar, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
For Tuesday, the IMD forecast predicts a “partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain, thunderstorm, or duststorm”. Wednesday’s outlook indicates “generally cloudy” conditions with similar chances of rain, thunderstorm, or duststorm. The temperature is expected to remain steady at 30°C, with humidity levels around 18%.
Meanwhile, the monsoon continues to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 105 lives have been lost between June 20 and July 14, 2025.
A cumulative report from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) under the Revenue Department revealed that 61 of these deaths were caused directly by monsoon-related disasters—such as landslides, flash floods, drowning, fire incidents, cloudbursts, and electrocution. The remaining 44 fatalities were due to road accidents, which have surged due to slippery roads, reduced visibility, and infrastructure damage from persistent rainfall.
During this period, the SDMA recorded 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 18 major landslides across the state. Rescue operations are ongoing, and road restoration work is underway in several flood-affected and blocked areas.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and remain vigilant to official weather advisories. Relief and ex-gratia payments are being distributed to families affected by the ongoing crisis.
The SDMA continues to caution against travel in high-risk zones—especially near hillsides and rivers—as rainfall is expected to persist. Early warning systems, real-time monitoring, and rapid response units remain fully operational.
Districts such as Shimla, Solan, Una, and Chamba have also reported infrastructure damage, although on a comparatively smaller scale.
While the latest SEOC bulletin did not update casualty numbers, SDMA officials had earlier confirmed a rise in deaths due to both rain-related incidents and road accidents. An earlier report cited 57 rain-related fatalities and 41 road accident deaths since June 20.
