TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss a range of issues, including Tehran’s nuclear program, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

“During the call, the two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments. Among the topics was Iran’s nuclear program, which has come under renewed scrutiny following the military aggression by the Israeli regime and the United States against our country,” the ministry said.

The conversation came in the aftermath of a significant escalation that began on June 13, when Israel launched a military operation against Iran. The offensive targeted nuclear facilities, military commanders, leading nuclear scientists, and air bases, accusing Tehran of secretly developing a military nuclear program.

Iran denied the allegations. What followed was 12 days of mutual strikes between the two nations, with the United States joining the conflict on June 22 by attacking Iranian nuclear sites.

In response, Iran retaliated by targeting the U.S. air base at Al Udeid in Qatar. Shortly after, Tehran declared that it had no intention of further escalating the conflict. On June 23, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire, bringing an end to what he described as the “12-day war.”
