Surrey: Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe Targeted in Second Shooting Within a Month
Surrey, Canada – Kap’s Cafe, the newly opened restaurant owned by Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma, was struck by gunfire for the second time in less than a month, sparking concern among locals and fans.
The latest shooting occurred early Thursday morning at the café, located at 85 Avenue and Scott Road. According to Vancouver City News, multiple shots were fired around 4:40 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Surrey Police Service (SPS). Although staff were inside at the time, no injuries were reported. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
Following the incident, officials have urged the public to assist with the investigation.
Local residents described being startled by the sound of gunfire. Bob Singh, who lives nearby, told City News 1130, “I saw it from my patio. I heard five or six shots, and then the cops arrived.” Another resident, Michelle Gaucher, added, “We were woken up by eight gunshots—it wasn’t fireworks. Then I heard sirens. It happened close to where Kap’s Cafe was shot at a couple of weeks ago.”
Kapil Sharma and his team have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
A few hours after the shooting, a viral social media post allegedly from gangster Goldy Dhillon claimed responsibility for the attack. The post, written in Hindi, read:
“Jai Shri Ram… The Goldy Dhillon and Lawrence Bishnoi gang take responsibility for today’s firing at Kap’s Cafe in Surrey. Our next target will be in Mumbai.”
The authenticity of the claim has not been independently verified, but the post has caused widespread concern online. Dhillon is allegedly affiliated with the criminal network of Lawrence Bishnoi.
As news of the incident spread, fans of Kapil Sharma flooded social media with messages of support and disbelief. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “What’s the issue with Kapil Sharma, a comedian?? Why is the gang targeting him?” Another added, “This is too shocking.”
This marks the second shooting at Kap’s Cafe since its opening. In mid-July, an unidentified assailant fired at least nine rounds at the outlet, forcing it to close for ten days. After reopening, the café released a heartfelt statement:
“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”
They reaffirmed their commitment to remain a space of peace and togetherness:
“This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”
Kapil Sharma had also shared the reopening message, writing: “Proud of you team @thekapscafe ❤️.”
Just days before this latest incident, the cafe posted a reel on Instagram showing a visit from Surrey’s mayor Brenda Locke and local police officials. The caption read:
“Thank you to the Mayor of Surrey Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We’re truly grateful.”

Kapil Sharma is one of India’s most beloved entertainers. After rising to fame through comedy shows like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Comedy Circus, he became a household name with Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. He is currently hosting The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.
