London: Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is under criminal investigation by UK police, reportedly in connection with a rape case, according to a Reuters report.

Reuters, citing the Greater Manchester Police, stated via email: “Following a report of rape received on Monday, 4 August 2025, a 24-year-old man was arrested. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries. The victim is receiving support from officers.”

According to Dawn, Haider Ali is involved in the investigation and was part of the 18-member Pakistan Shaheens squad that toured England from July 17 to August 6, playing two three-day matches and three One Day Internationals.

In a statement, the PCB confirmed it had been notified of the Greater Manchester Police’s investigation into an incident that is believed to have occurred during the tour.

“In line with its duty of care and commitment to safeguarding the welfare and legal rights of all its players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has access to appropriate legal support throughout this process,” the statement read, as quoted by Dawn.

The PCB emphasized its respect for the British legal system and its intention to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

“Accordingly, the PCB has placed Haider Ali under provisional suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the investigation. Once legal proceedings are concluded and all facts are established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if deemed necessary,” the statement added.

The board further stated that it will not comment further until the legal process reaches its conclusion.
