New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, highlighting the festival’s role in strengthening the bond between siblings.

“Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” PM Modi wrote on X, underscoring the cultural and emotional significance of the day.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his wishes, calling Raksha Bandhan a celebration of the “unbreakable bond of love, trust, and commitment to protection” between brothers and sisters. “I pray to God that this festival becomes a source of joy and enthusiasm in everyone’s life,” he posted on X.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in his message, stressed that Raksha Bandhan’s meaning extends beyond the rakhi thread itself. “This festival is a symbol of the commitment to honor, protect, and ensure the happiness and prosperity of our sisters,” he wrote, adding that it should inspire a deeper spirit of protection.

Raksha Bandhan, a traditional Hindu festival, celebrates the love and bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists, and in return, brothers offer gifts and promise to protect their sisters from harm. The custom is mentioned in Hindu scriptures and has been observed for centuries.

This year, the festival is being celebrated on August 9.
