New Delhi: On Saturday, the Election Commission announced it has delisted 334 registered unrecognised political parties for failing to meet the key requirement of contesting at least one election in the six years since 2019.
Additionally, the offices of these parties could not be physically traced. These 334 parties come from various states and Union Territories across the country, the Commission stated. Following this cleanup, 2,520 out of the original 2,854 registered unrecognised parties remain. Currently, India has six national parties and 67 state parties.
