JAMMU: A 25-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life after his throat was slashed by a Chinese kite-string, locally known as “Gattu,” in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police officials reported.

The use and sale of the Chinese kite-string, or “Manja,” has been banned by authorities. Several shopkeepers across Jammu have recently been arrested for illegally trading this hazardous material.

Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Seen Brahmana village, was traveling from Udhampur towards Rehambal when the banned kite-string cut his throat near Ghari village at around 4:30 pm, officials said.

Passersby rushed him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Udhampur, where doctors pronounced him dead, the officials added.

Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible.
