Bangkok: India’s young women boxers showcased their rising dominance in continental competition as Nisha (54kg) and Muskan (57kg) struck gold, while five others secured silver at the U19 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday.
Out of 10 Indian women in the U19 category, nine will return with medals — two gold, five silver, and two bronze — underscoring India’s emergence as a boxing powerhouse alongside Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China.
Nisha opened India’s gold tally in the day’s second bout, lifting her game in the final round to defeat China’s Sirui Yang 4:1. Muskan followed with an aggressive display, overcoming Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek 3:2 in a split verdict.
The U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships, held concurrently, offer India’s up-and-coming pugilists a stage to test themselves against Asia’s toughest opponents. India has sent a 40-member contingent — 20 in each age group — blending proven champions with promising talent from the domestic circuit.
Three Indian men will compete in their U19 finals later on Sunday. In the U22 category, India is already assured of 13 medals, with five boxers vying for gold on Monday.
Among the other Indian women in U19 finals, Vini lost to Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova (60kg), while Japan’s Arinda Akimoto edged out Nisha 4:1 in the 65kg bout. In higher weight classes, Aarti Kumari (75kg) was beaten by China’s Tongtong Gu, Kritika Wasan (80kg) fell 2:3 to Kazakhstan’s Kuralay Yeginbaikyzy, and Parchi Tokas (80+kg) lost by the same margin to Uzbekistan’s Sobirakhon Shakhobidinova.
