Mumbai: Originally from Uttar Pradesh and with no connections to the film industry, Rukhsar Rehman entered Bollywood in the 1990s as a teenager.

Now, in 2025, after weathering the highs and lows of her personal and professional life, Rukhsar stands proud, with no regrets, and a diverse body of work spanning films, web series, and brand endorsements.

In a candid conversation with ANI, she reflected on her career built on resilience and hard work, recalling her experiences working with Salman Khan.

Rukhsar first shared the screen with Salman in Rumi Jaffery’s God Tussi Great Ho (2008). But few know she was originally cast as the female lead opposite him in Sanam Bewafa.

“I was supposed to do that film, but it came with a contract my father wasn’t comfortable with. I had already shot for 3–4 days before things changed. Interestingly, the makers still kept the character’s name as ‘Rukhsar’,” she revealed.

Years later, she reunited with Salman, this time playing his sister in God Tussi Great Ho. “I had a great time working on that film,” she said with a smile.

Rukhsar believes destiny has its role to play, but admits missed opportunities can be hard to process. Earlier in her career, she often felt anxious about auditions and roles.

“I used to overthink—wondering if I’d get the role or not. Now, I’ve learned patience. I see it as part and parcel of the profession,” she said.

From working with the late Rishi Kapoor at just 17 in Inteha Pyar Ki to notable roles in D, Sarkar, PK, and Uri: The Surgical Strike, Rukhsar has carved her own path in the industry.

Her daughter, Aisha, is also following in her footsteps.

“I’m so proud of Aisha. She’s doing really well. She even walked the ramp recently—it was commendable,” Rukhsar said, her voice filled with pride.
