Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ around Dal Lake on Tuesday.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of local residents.
While addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the significance of the national flag and honored the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for it. He urged citizens to respect the flag beyond ceremonial occasions.
“Those who laid down their lives for the Tiranga, those who gave their today without worrying about the future, believed they alone could safeguard the flag. For the nation’s welfare, we must all be ready to stand tall. I hope our bond with the national flag goes beyond just events. It is our identity, and we must uphold its dignity,” he said.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the soldiers and police for avenging the Pahalgam terror attack and protecting the nation’s honor. “I congratulate the brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, along with the officers of the armed forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, for defending the nation’s self-respect by responding to the Pahalgam terror attack,” he stated.
Students from various schools joined the Tiranga Yatra organized by the CRPF at Lal Chowk. In Doda, a 1,508-meter-long national flag was unfurled during the rally yesterday.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative launched in 2021, encourages citizens to bring the national flag into their homes and hoist it in celebration of India’s 75th year of independence. The campaign aims to inspire patriotism and awareness about the Indian flag.
According to the Ministry of Culture, this year’s campaign runs from August 2 to August 15, urging people across India to hoist the tricolour at their homes.
The Ministry also emphasized that alongside the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, a cleanliness drive has been initiated.
“From August 2 to 15, hoist the tricolour at your home,” the Ministry of Culture posted on X.
“This year, along with the flag, a commitment to cleanliness — spreading the message ‘Cleanliness is Service’ — will reach every individual,” the post added.
