NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday accepted a notice seeking the removal of High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma and appointed a three-member panel to investigate the allegations against him.
Announcing the decision in the Lok Sabha, Birla said the removal process should begin, citing the serious nature of the charges.
The committee includes Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, and senior advocate of the Karnataka High Court B. V. Acharya.
“The committee will present its report at the earliest. The removal proposal will remain pending until the inquiry committee’s findings are received,” Birla stated.
