Review of Ongoing Development and Upgradation Works

SRINAGAR: Abdul Rahim Rather, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, conducted a surprise inspection today of the Legislature Hostel in Srinagar to assess the progress of ongoing development and upgradation works aimed at improving facilities for the legislators.

He was accompanied by Secretary Legislative Assembly Manoj Kumar Pandita, Executive Engineers from various departments, senior officers of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, and other concerned officials.

During the inspection, the Speaker toured multiple sections of the hostel’s New Block, evaluating the pace and quality of civil works, infrastructure upgrades, and other amenities. He directed the executing agencies to uphold high standards of workmanship and strictly adhere to the established timelines. He emphasized the efficient use of public resources and stressed that all work should reflect both quality and durability.

The Speaker also ordered immediate renovation of rooms damaged in a recent fire incident. Additionally, he took serious note of the careless construction of the compound wall, which was damaged during the 2014 floods, and called for its prompt repair.

Following the inspection, the Speaker chaired a brief meeting to review the overall functioning of the Legislature Hostel.

During the meeting, he instructed the hostel management to ensure proper upkeep, regular maintenance, and the provision of modern amenities to meet the current needs of legislators. “Legislators represent democracy and the public; they deserve to be provided facilities with the dignity they merit,” he stated.

He further emphasized that improving hostel services will not only benefit the legislators but also uphold the prestige of the institution they serve.

The Speaker also addressed various concerns raised by the employees of the Legislature Hostel, directing the Assembly Secretariat officers to conduct timely Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings for eligible staff members. He called on the officers to maintain discipline within the hostel and enforce a proper uniform code for the staff.
