Jaipur: On Tuesday, Police CID (Security) Intelligence arrested a suspected Pakistani spy from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The accused, Mahendra Prasad (32), worked as the manager of the DRDO Guest House at the Chandan Field Firing Range.
He was allegedly in regular contact with a Pakistani intelligence handler and was leaking sensitive information about India’s defence activities.
CID (Security) IG Dr. Vishnukant stated that ahead of Independence Day, Rajasthan CID Intelligence intensified surveillance on anti-national and subversive activities. During this period, information emerged about Mahendra Prasad, a contractual worker at the DRDO Guest House and a native of Palyun, Almora (Uttarakhand), suspected of espionage.
Investigations revealed that Prasad communicated with a Pakistani intelligence agency via social media. He reportedly provided details about the movements of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range, a key site for missile and weapon trials in Jaisalmer.
After his arrest, Prasad was interrogated jointly by security agencies, and a technical analysis of his mobile phone confirmed he had shared sensitive information about DRDO operations and Indian Army activities with his Pakistani handler.
Based on the evidence, CID Intelligence formally charged Mahendra Prasad with espionage. Authorities are currently investigating the scope of the security breach and whether others are involved.
This arrest underscores the persistent threat of foreign intelligence targeting India’s strategic assets. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to national security and urged personnel in sensitive roles to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
