Over 16.7 lakh households have benefited from the solar scheme, with Rs 9,000 crore disbursed

NEW DELHI: As of August 5, 2025, a total of 16.78 lakh households have installed rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), benefiting from over ₹9,280 crore disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA), the government informed Parliament on Tuesday.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been implementing the scheme nationwide since February 2024, with a target of installing rooftop solar systems in one crore residential households by 2026–27.

“In total, 16.78 lakh households have benefitted so far, and ₹9,280.88 crore has been released as CFA to the beneficiaries,” said Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

The earlier Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Programme Phase-II, launched in March 2019 and extended until March 2026, was integrated into PMSG: MBY following its launch in February 2024.
