Srinagar: Security has been intensified at Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for Independence Day celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure incident-free events in the Valley.
A full dress rehearsal of the parade was held at the stadium on Wednesday, with Divisional Commissioner V.K. Bhiduri taking the salute at the march past.
“We have put in place multi-tier security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations. Spotters have been deployed on high-rise buildings to maintain vigilance,” Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) V.K. Birdi told reporters after the rehearsal.
He said every possible scenario had been factored into the security plan to ensure a peaceful Independence Day.
Following the parade, artists and schoolchildren presented a cultural programme showcasing the diversity of Jammu and Kashmir. Contingents of police, security forces and students participated in the rehearsal.
