Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has topped the nation by receiving 127 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day 2025, the highest among all police forces in India.
The awards were announced as part of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ list recognizing personnel across Police, Fire, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services for acts of bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious contributions.
In addition to the gallantry honors, J&K Police personnel received 2 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 14 Police Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), reflecting their dedication and professionalism.
The remarkable tally underscores the force’s continued role in counter-insurgency operations, internal security management, and maintaining law and order in one of India’s most sensitive regions.
For comparison, other forces received significantly fewer medals: CRPF (20), Chhattisgarh Police (14), Uttar Pradesh Police (17), and Odisha Police (9). The figures highlight the exceptional operational challenges faced by the J&K Police and the courage displayed by its personnel in the line of duty.
