Indian Govt Issues High-Severity Chrome Security Warning for Desktop Users
Google Chrome security flaws are back in the spotlight, with the Indian government urging millions of users to take immediate action.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a high-severity alert on August 13, warning Chrome users on Windows, macOS, and Linux about vulnerabilities that could let hackers bypass security, gain control of devices, and steal sensitive information.
What the Govt Has Said
CERT-In reports that the flaws affect several Chrome components, including:
- Heap buffer overflow in libaom
- Race condition in V8
- Out-of-bounds write in ANGLE
- Inappropriate implementation in File Picker
- Use-after-free in Aura
These weaknesses make Chrome a prime target for attackers, especially given its widespread use.
Who Is at Risk?
The warning applies to:
- Chrome versions before 139.0.7258.127/.128 on Windows and macOS
- Chrome versions before 139.0.7258.127 on Linux
Both business and personal desktop users could be affected.
