KATHMANDU : A three-member delegation from India’s Jal Shakti Ministry met with Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh on Thursday to discuss measures for mitigating the ongoing drought crisis, which has been exacerbated by a delayed monsoon.

Madhes Province, a key agricultural area bordering India, has struggled this season due to late and insufficient rainfall, posing a serious threat to the livelihoods of farmers reliant on timely sowing. Recent showers have provided some relief to local communities and cultivators.

The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the Indian delegation shared expertise on optimising groundwater resources to tackle the water shortage. The delegation also assured Chief Minister Singh that a team of Indian technicians would soon conduct a detailed assessment of groundwater availability across different parts of Madhes Province.
