Leh/Jammu: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday unfurled the national flag to mark the 79th Independence Day, paying tribute to the armed forces for their unwavering dedication in safeguarding the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta assured that every section of society would be included in Ladakh’s journey towards progress. Reaffirming his commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas (togetherness, development, trust, and collective effort), he said, “Our mission is to unite every community, every section, and every region of Ladakh in a shared path to development, prosperity, and peace.”
He urged citizens to embrace the duties and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution, adding that since assuming office on July 18, 2025, he has travelled across the Union Territory, including Kargil, to hear people’s hopes, aspirations, and concerns. “I will continue to listen to you so we can work together to fulfil your aspirations,” he said.
At the historic Polo Ground in Leh, Gupta inspected the parade and honoured the valour of the armed forces. “I bow before the armed forces and pay homage to those who laid down their lives for our sovereignty. From the Kargil War to every other conflict, they have brought glory to the nation. The Ladakh Scouts, in particular, have shown unmatched courage,” he noted.
Recalling the Dalai Lama’s visits to Ladakh, he described it as the region’s “good fortune” and expressed pride in celebrating the spiritual leader’s 90th birthday recently. He also congratulated residents on the creation of new districts and the official recognition of local languages, calling it a boost to Ladakh’s cultural identity.
Highlighting employment as a priority, Gupta said the Centre had begun providing Ladakh its own services and domicile-based opportunities in June, with 95% of jobs reserved for local youth. “This is a historic milestone in our journey,” he stressed.
“With unity and determination, Ladakh will scale new heights of development, peace, and prosperity,” the Lieutenant Governor concluded.
