Leh, Ladakh: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Saturday pledged to regulate airfare and boost tourism across the Union Territory.
“The administration will take decisive steps to ensure airlines do not overburden passengers with steep charges, especially during the harsh winter months,” Gupta said.
During a meeting with Ladakh MP Mohmad Haneefa Jan and representatives of the All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA), the L-G reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting tourism in the region. “Every effort will be made to enhance tourism and improve connectivity,” he added.
Highlighting the need to expand tourism in Kargil, Gupta emphasized organizing cultural events like the Suru Festival and facilitating private aircraft services to improve accessibility, ensuring greater convenience for visitors.
He urged tour operators and stakeholders to collaborate proactively and adopt flexible approaches to strengthen Ladakh’s tourism ecosystem while safeguarding the interests of local communities.
MP Haneefa Jan raised key concerns, including the operation of 19-seater aircraft in Kargil under the UDAN scheme, upgrading Kargil district hospital, and providing advanced medical services in Leh and Kargil hospitals.
The ALTOA delegation also requested the L-G’s support for a uniform process for tour operator registration, issuance of Ladakh Resident Certificates, and allocation of funds for aggressive tourism promotion, an official spokesperson said.
Gupta listened attentively to all concerns and assured that every effort would be made to address them in coordination with the relevant ministries and departments.
