Foreign Secretary Misri on two-day visit to Nepal

KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Nepal on Sunday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and preparing the ground for Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s expected trip to New Delhi next month.

Misri, who landed at Tribhuvan International Airport around 9 am, is visiting at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai. During his stay, he will call on President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister Oli, and pay a courtesy visit to Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.

He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Rai at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singhdurbar, and meet senior leaders from major political parties, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda.”

According to Nepal’s Foreign Ministry, discussions will focus on connectivity, development cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest. Misri will return to India on Monday.

Diplomatic sources said Oli’s India visit is tentatively planned for around September 16, though an official announcement is awaited.
