Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress on Monday called for a special Central relief and rehabilitation package for victims of the cloudburst in Chisoti village, Kishtwar district.

On August 14, flash floods triggered by the cloudburst swept through Chisoti—the last motorable village on the way to the Machail Mata temple—claiming 63 lives, injuring 116, and leaving 82 people missing.

Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, demanded the central package during a party meeting in Kishtwar. Senior leaders, including working president Raman Bhalla and former minister G.M. Saroori, attended the meeting, which focused on the current situation, party activities, and ongoing relief and rescue operations in Chisoti.

Addressing the gathering, Karra, who visited the affected village with a delegation on Sunday, urged the Centre to support rehabilitation efforts through a dedicated relief package. Bhalla added that the tragedy should be officially recognized as a national disaster, with affected families adequately compensated.
