NEW DELHI: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) vice-presidential nominee C. P. Radhakrishnan was honored at a meeting of the ruling coalition’s MPs on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several BJP allies in attendance.

Radhakrishnan is expected to submit his nomination on Wednesday.

With the BJP-led NDA holding a clear majority in the electoral college, which includes MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, his victory is all but assured. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc has indicated it will field a candidate, setting the stage for a contest.

Aged 67, Radhakrishnan is a veteran BJP leader, currently serving as Maharashtra’s governor, and hails from Tamil Nadu.
