Mumbai: Actor Priyanka Chopra recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt post dedicated to her film Kaminey.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Shahid Kapoor alongside Priyanka, Kaminey recently celebrated 16 years. On Monday, Priyanka described the film as a pivotal moment in her career.
She recalled, “Sweety Bhope. I was filming Dostana in Miami, Florida, with @tarun_mansukhani directing and @bachchan and @thejohnabraham starring. One evening after wrapping up, I saw a missed call from Vishal Bhardwaj. I had wanted to work with him forever and never imagined he’d cast me because of my ‘commercial’ image at the time. He said he’d like to come see me, and he actually did—right in Miami. I remember him telling me the story, and I said, ‘Well, she has approximately eight scenes.’ And he replied, ‘With us working on it, it will end up being so much more. Trust me.’ And I did.”
She added, “He promised to make something incredible for me later, in appreciation for doing the part. But honestly, I was just eager to work with him. A few years later, we did 7 Khoon Maaf. #Kaminey remains a turning point in my career.”
Priyanka also praised her co-stars, writing, “I learned so much from the master @vishalrbhardwaj—how to research, prepare, and then fully surrender to the part. @shahidkapoor was sensational in his double role. #AmolGupte was unforgettable. I also met @mubinarattonsey for the first time on this set. Those were the times—16 years ago! Thought I’d share the experience. Have any of you watched it?”
In Kaminey, Shahid Kapoor played twin brothers Charlie and Guddu, each with distinct speech impediments, while Priyanka’s dance performance in “Raat Ke Dhai Baje” went viral.
Currently, Priyanka is busy shooting for SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film, where she stars opposite Mahesh Babu.
