Jammu: Seven people, including women and children, were rescued by the Indian Army in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, after being stranded on a patch of land due to flash floods on Tuesday, officials said.
The rescue operation took place at Lower Kuniyan, where heavy rains had caused the Poonch River to swell, leaving several civilians isolated on an island, a Jammu-based PRO Defence spokesperson stated.
Responding immediately to the distress call, a specially trained Army team was deployed and successfully rescued all seven individuals.
“The operation exemplified the Indian Army’s core values of bravery, courage, and compassion. Soldiers demonstrated exceptional dedication, risking their lives to ensure the safety of the marooned civilians,” the PRO added.
He noted that the timely intervention not only averted a potential tragedy but also reassured the local community of the Army’s readiness to act during emergencies.
