Mumbai: Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, widely remembered for his role as a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, passed away on August 18, his daughter Anuradha Paraskar confirmed.
The actor, who appeared in over 125 films, breathed his last at Jupiter Hospital in Thane.
Speaking about his final moments, Anuradha Paraskar said, “He was about to turn 91 on August 22. He was aging, but yesterday afternoon he fell unconscious and was admitted to Jupiter Hospital. Within a few hours, around 9 PM, his heart failed. Doctors mentioned an aortic dissection followed by multiple organ complications. It was sudden, but a very peaceful end.”
His final rites will be held this evening in Thane.
Achyut Potdar is best remembered for his iconic role as a college professor in 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, and R. Madhavan. His famous line, “Arey kehna kya chahte ho,” became hugely popular on social media.
Over his long career, he featured in films such as Aakrosh, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Rangeela, Vaastav, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2, and Ventilator.
He also appeared in several television shows, including Bharat Ek Khoj (Doordarshan), Shubh Mangal Savadhan, All The Best, Mrs. Tendulkar, Pradhan Mantri, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, among others.
