“’We will miss you’: Aamir Khan and Boman Irani honor ‘3 Idiots’ actor Achyut Potdar”

Mumbai: Tributes have been pouring in following the passing of veteran actor Achyut Potdar, widely remembered for his role as a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster 3 Idiots.

A heartfelt message came from Aamir Khan, who shared the screen with Potdar in the 2009 film. Aamir Khan Productions posted a note on Instagram, remembering him as an “amazing actor.”

“I am very saddened to hear about Achyutji’s passing away. He was an amazing actor, a wonderful human being, and a great colleague. We will miss you, Achyutji. My heartfelt condolences to his family,” the note read, signed with the initial “a.”

Filmmakers Hansal Mehta and Sudhir Mishra, along with actor Jackie Shroff, also paid tribute to the veteran actor. Boman Irani, who played the iconic Professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe in 3 Idiots, shared his condolences on Instagram as well.

Achyut Potdar passed away on Monday, August 18, as confirmed by his daughter, Anuradha Paraskar. The veteran actor, who was about to turn 91, was admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane before his death.

“He was getting old, but yesterday he fell unconscious in the afternoon. We admitted him to Jupiter Hospital, and within a few hours, by about 9 o’clock, his heart went into failure. Doctors said there was an aorta dissection, followed by multiple organ failure. It was a quick but very peaceful end,” she told reporters here.

Beyond his iconic role in 3 Idiots, Potdar had an extensive filmography, including Aakrosh, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and Dabangg 2.
