Satish Sharma Calls for Industry-Technology Synergy to Drive People-Centric Innovations

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today stressed the need for stronger collaboration between technology and industry to ensure that innovations address real societal needs.

He made these remarks while chairing a review meeting of the Science & Technology Department, attended by Additional Directors Dr. Nasir Shah and Mushtaq Ahmad, Additional Secretary Neelam Khajuria, and other senior officials.

Sharma emphasized that technological progress should not remain limited to laboratories but must translate into practical, people-friendly solutions. He directed the department to foster research collaborations, promote startups, and develop incubation centres to transform innovative ideas into sustainable enterprises. Highlighting the importance of local talent, he said efforts must be made to position Jammu & Kashmir as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Technology must not be innovation for the sake of innovation but innovation for the sake of the people,” the Minister remarked, urging industries and institutions to work jointly to realize this vision.

Senior officers presented progress reports and detailed ongoing initiatives during the meeting. Sharma assured full government support in strengthening infrastructure and policies to promote science-driven growth in the Union Territory.

Later, the Minister distributed appointment letters to newly recruited Research Assistants of the Science & Technology Department.
