Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday emphasized that investment in human capital, innovation, and research must be the foremost priority for educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a new administrative block and an amphitheatre at the Tulmulla Campus of the Central University of Kashmir in Ganderbal district.

Highlighting the crucial role of academicians and students, Sinha said India is poised for significant growth over the next two decades, with the ultimate goal of achieving Viksit Bharat@2047. “Our growth model should focus on developing human capital capable of driving economic progress,” he added.

Stressing the need for a dynamic learning environment, the Lt Governor called for fostering critical thinking, life skills, problem-solving abilities, and innovation among students. “We must move beyond the ‘Sab chalta hai’ mindset and bring revolutionary changes to outdated college and university curricula to transform India into a knowledge economy. Our top priority should be investment in human capital, innovation, and research,” he said.

Sinha also underscored the importance of interdisciplinary courses, noting that besides nurturing creativity, innovation, and analytical skills, such programs help students understand their social and moral responsibilities.

“The university forms the axis of development, with students at its core. Human development is never mechanical—it requires better universities, dedicated teachers, and a conducive learning environment,” he said.

Pointing to the challenges of rapid technological change, Sinha added, “We need human resources with exceptional capabilities—individuals who possess lifelong learning skills and the adaptability to reskill and upskill over time.”
