Srinagar: An anti-corruption court in Srinagar on Wednesday convicted a former IAS officer in Jammu and Kashmir for accumulating disproportionate assets during his tenure.
The Additional Special Judge (Anti-Corruption) court found Habibul Hassan Beigh, a retired IAS officer and former member of the J&K government’s special tribunal, guilty in the case. He was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and fined Rs 15 lakh, according to a spokesperson of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The case, registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, in conjunction with Sections 12 and 14 of the J&K Public Men and Public Servants Declaration of Assets and Other Provisions Act, 1983, was initiated on April 24, 1997. It examined allegations that Beigh amassed significant movable and immovable property during his service.
The investigation established the charges beyond doubt through oral and documentary evidence, the ACB spokesperson said. The chargesheet was formally presented in court on November 13, 2000, for judicial determination.
