Shimla: The monsoon death toll in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 276 since June 20, with 143 fatalities attributed to rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and house collapses, while 133 deaths occurred in road accidents, the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) reported.
Heavy monsoon rains have also severely affected large parts of the state, blocking 366 roads, causing power outages in 929 areas, and disrupting 139 water supply schemes in the past 24 hours.
National Highway-305 in Kullu and NH-154 in Mandi remained closed due to road subsidence and landslides, with numerous other key link roads rendered impassable across districts including Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Sirmaur, and Chamba.
Kullu faced the most significant disruption, with 125 roads shut, 281 power distribution transformers (DTRs) damaged, and 56 water supply schemes affected. Mandi recorded 174 blocked roads, 98 DTRs down, and 60 disrupted water supply schemes.
Field reports indicate that several areas—including Lug Valley, Manikaran, Sainj, Jibhi, the Mandi-Jogindernagar stretch, and Thangi-Charang in Kinnaur—remain completely cut off. Restoration work is ongoing but continues to be hampered by persistent rainfall and fresh landslides.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid travel on vulnerable routes and warned of possible further disruptions as the monsoon remains active.
