Anantnag Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Seize Poppy Straw Valued at Rs 1 Crore

Srinagar: A drug peddler was arrested on Thursday after a large quantity of narcotics was seized in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police reported.

Acting on specific intelligence about the storage of drugs, a team from Srigufwara Police Station carried out a carefully planned raid at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad in Nowshara, Srigufwara area, in south Kashmir, a police spokesperson said.

During a thorough search of the premises, the police recovered 98 kg of poppy straw, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore in the international market, the spokesperson added.

Two mixer grinders, believed to be used for processing the narcotic material, were also seized from the site.

The accused was arrested on the spot, and the seized contraband and other items have been taken into police custody as case property. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
