Mumbai: The highly anticipated streaming film Songs of Paradise, starring Saba Azad and Soni Razdan, is set to premiere on OTT on August 29, 2025. The film is inspired by Padma Shri awardee Raj Begum, famously known as the Melody Queen of Kashmir.
The narrative weaves together music, defiance, and the indomitable spirit of Kashmir’s first prominent playback singer, who not only inspired women across the region but also sparked a cultural movement in the music industry.
Saba Azad and Soni Razdan portray Raj Begum at different stages of her life, supported by a stellar cast including Zain Khan Durrani, Sheeba Chaddha, Taaruk Raina, and Lillete Dubey. The film is directed by Danish Renzu.
Speaking about the project, Danish Renzu said, “Songs of Paradise is a heartfelt tribute to Padma Shri recipient Raj Begum, the first female voice at Radio Kashmir. It narrates an emotionally stirring story inspired by her music, legacy, and courage during a time when societal norms restricted women both culturally and emotionally. This is the story of a woman who dared to dream when dreaming itself was considered taboo. Saba Azad and Soni Razdan bring her journey to life across two distinct phases, supported by exceptional performances from the ensemble cast. Thanks to Prime Video, audiences worldwide will finally experience her story—a tale that has long deserved recognition.”
The film is described as a poignant homage to resilience, identity, and courage, set against the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir.
Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment added, “Songs of Paradise is a timeless story of a trailblazer from Kashmir, layered with emotion, heritage, and hope. It chronicles the life of Padma Shri awardee Raj Begum, whose voice became the pride of the region and an inspiration for generations to come. We are proud to collaborate with Danish Renzu in bringing this unique and powerful story to audiences worldwide, alongside Prime Video, a partner who shares our vision.”
