NEW DELHI: Power generation companies currently have sufficient coal stocks, and there is no fuel shortage, said Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday.
Speaking at the launch of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, Reddy emphasized the need to boost coal production to meet rising future power demand. “At present, there is no shortage of coal, and power companies are adequately stocked,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of holding regular coal block auctions and ensuring the early operationalization of mines. India, he noted, possesses vast coal reserves and ranks second globally in both coal production and consumption.
Reddy added that the government plans to introduce significant reforms in the coal sector in the near future.
