Gayaji (Bihar): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated multiple projects in Bihar’s Gayaji district, including the Rs 6,880-crore Buxar thermal power plant, officials said.
The PM also flagged off two trains — the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Gayaji and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit train linking Vaishali and Koderma. The latter is expected to boost tourism and facilitate pilgrimages to key Buddhist sites in the region.
The Buxar thermal power plant will significantly increase the region’s power generation capacity, strengthen energy security, and meet growing electricity demand.
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with several Union and state ministers, MPs, and MLAs, were present at the event.
PM Modi also inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Muzaffarpur. The facility is equipped with advanced oncology OPD and IPD wards, operation theatres, modern laboratories, a blood bank, and a 24-bed ICU and HDU. The hospital aims to provide advanced and affordable cancer care to patients from Bihar and neighboring states, reducing the need to travel to distant metropolitan cities for treatment.
Additionally, the PM inaugurated a sewerage treatment plant and network in Munger, developed under the Namami Gange project at a cost of over Rs 520 crore. This initiative will reduce Ganga pollution and improve sanitation in the region.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones for a series of urban infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 1,260 crore. These include STPs and sewerage networks in Daudnagar (Aurangabad), Jehanabad, Barahiya (Lakhisarai), and Jamui, as well as interception and diversion works.
Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0), foundation stones were laid for water supply projects in Aurangabad, Bodhgaya, and Jehanabad.
A ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony was also held, benefiting 12,000 rural households under PMAY-Gramin and 4,260 urban beneficiaries under PMAY-U, with the symbolic handing over of keys by the PM.
PM Modi further inaugurated the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama section of NH-31, worth around Rs 1,900 crore, which will ease congestion, reduce travel time, and improve passenger and freight movement.
Later, he is scheduled to inaugurate the 1.86-km Aunta-Simaria Bridge over the Ganga, providing direct connectivity between Mokama in Patna district and Begusarai.
