Jammu: Authorities on Saturday issued advisories warning of heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir over the next four days, with the risk of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in high-altitude areas.
Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Ramban, and Kishtwar have advised residents to avoid riverbanks, nallahs, flood-prone, and waterlogged areas, keep emergency supplies ready, and stay updated with official weather alerts.
People are urged to stay vigilant, prioritize safety, and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone regions. Residents in vulnerable areas should identify safer locations, coordinate with local authorities, and stay away from landslide-prone zones, fast-flowing streams, and unstable slopes, officials said.
The advisories follow a rainfall alert from the Srinagar centre of the Indian Meteorological Department, forecasting intense rain, cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in Jammu and Kashmir from August 23 to 27.
Authorities have instructed all government departments to remain on high alert, with field staff stationed at headquarters and ready to provide immediate assistance. Tehsildars have been directed to report any loss of life or property to the Deputy Commissioner’s office without delay.
For emergencies, residents can contact the Police Control Room, district control rooms, or the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
