New Delhi: Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most celebrated Test batsmen, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Sunday. The 37-year-old shared the news on social media, having played his final Test match in 2023, completing a career spanning 103 Tests.
“As a young boy from the small town of Rajkot, I, along with my parents, dreamed of reaching for the stars and representing India in cricket. I could never have imagined the incredible journey this game would take me on – offering invaluable opportunities, experiences, love, and, above all, the honor of representing my state and nation.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the national anthem, and giving my best every time I stepped onto the field – words cannot capture what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. With immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” Pujara wrote in a heartfelt message.
The decision comes in the wake of retirements by fellow stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year ahead of the England tour.
Pujara concludes his illustrious Test career with 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, ranking eighth among India’s all-time leading run-scorers. He also amassed 21,301 runs in first-class cricket.
