Handwara: At least 30 women were injured on Sunday after the ceiling of a residential house collapsed during a religious gathering in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The women had gathered for a religious discourse at the house of a preacher in Pohrupeth village when the first-floor ceiling suddenly gave way, injuring several of them, officials added.
The incident occurred around 2:30 pm, following which the injured were rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Handwara.
“We have received around 30 injured women and, fortunately, all are stable,” said GMC Medical Superintendent Aijaz Ahmad. “Doctors are monitoring their condition, and there is no cause for panic,” he added.
